What is your current role and focus in the nonprofit sector?

I am the program coordinator at Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services (www.milwaukeeachiever.org). One of my biggest professional accomplishments thus far has been writing and submitting an alternative High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) program that was approved by the Department of Public Instruction in May 2014 and has graduated 138 adult learners since then. Adult literacy is such an important issue. Lowered literacy increases unemployment, underemployment, and the interventions necessary for K-12 educators with children who are not able to be academically supported outside of the classroom. Education can be one of the most comprehensive ways to help break the cycle of poverty.

What is your favorite nonprofit event or program?

My favorite nonprofit even is Milwaukee Achiever's annual Volunteer Appreciation dinner/awards. Volunteers are truly what makes a nonprofit's mission come to life. It is always great to honor them for their hard work and commitment. This is also a night where we honor learners who have shown great commitment to their goals. Overall, its one of the highlights of my year.

Who would you consider as a professional mentor or role model?

I have been blessed to be surrounded by women who are phenomenal for their own special reasons. Most of these women know who they are to me, they encourage me to be better, and offer sound advice when I ask. They each posses something that I lack. I respect them very much, and their leadership qualities are shining examples of integrity and drive for success.

Why did you join YNPN Milwaukee?

I became involved with YNPN because a dear friend nominated me to be on the board. I have enjoyed my first year with YNPN, and look forward to helping YNPN reach new heights and continuing doing a wonderful job connecting Milwaukee's nonprofit professionals. I am involved in YNPN because there are so many young professionals in Milwaukee who are a part of the impact that nonprofits have on our community. I believe that YNPN helps to bring those professionals together for a common purpose and strengthen future leadership for our community through collaboration and shared passion for change. I enjoy meeting other professionals who understand the unique challenges and successes associated with Milwaukee nonprofits. YNPN is special to me, I cannot wait to see what 2016 has in store!
